  • Louie 13-15 West St, London WC2H 9NE London UK (map)

Magma’s take:

Straight from Brazil, a quintuple threat of jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul, funk and pop.

Joabe Reis is one of the most important trombonists and artists of the new instrumental jazz brazilian scene. Joabe is a trombonist, composer and producer. He released his critically acclaimed first album in 2020, featuring Toninho Horta, Nelson Ayres and New York trombonist Elliot Mason, a member of the Lincoln Center at Orchestra, led by trumpeter Wyton Marsalis. Joabe reveres jazz, highly influenced by Hip-Hop, Neo Soul, Funk and Pop.  Joabe was invited by Macy Gray to play on her tour in Brazil with four sold-out shows at Blue Note SP and Rock in Rio. Consolidating himself as an artist who transits between jazz and pop, in the same month he was invited by Toninho Horta to a show in honor of Raul e Souza. Moreover, before he released his first album, he had already played with artists such as Ivan Lins, Bob Mintzer, Robin Ewbank, Hermeto Pascoal, Hamilton de Holanda, Anitta and Roberto Menescal.

Joabe Reis' new album, 028, was just released and have some important collaborations such as Bob Mintzer and Gabriel Grossi.
